When a customer makes an order, there’s a whole chain of events that needs to happen in order for the customer to receive their items. This can be done thanks to electronic data interchange (EDI).

Before EDI, many shops and warehouses relied on paper and organised filing systems to process orders, but now, this information can be transferred instantly for maximum efficiency.

Booksolve’s EDI warehouse system has the ability to:

  • Receive electronic orders from a website or bookshop, which can be imported as orders into Booksolve.net. It means you can view all orders in one place to reduce error and improve efficiency.

  • Show you all orders in one system, even when they’ve come from multiple bookshops or websites.

  • Move stock between warehouses if you have multiple locations.

There are multiple EDI standards available, including TRADACOM and EDIFACT, both of which Booksolve can support. We have also worked with PubEasy to develop SOAP interfaces which adhere to BIC industry standards.

Understanding an EDI system and what it does

An EDI system allows businesses to exchange data, documents and information in a standardised format that is also secure and efficient. With an EDI, there’s no need for a paper filing system that processes physical invoices. This can be ineffective and increases the risk of human error, missed orders or incorrect information, such as a misspelt delivery address.

As a warehouse, you may receive tens or even hundreds of orders from various shops and websites a day. This can be difficult to manage if your existing system is unable to handle the volume of orders.
